You guys, I've been gone for 11 months. Can you even believe it!? I can't. Next month I hit my year mark? That's just unreal. Wow! I do hate that it's going by so fast but I really am so grateful I had the opportunity to come on a mission. I wouldn't change it for anything! Not a car, or a trip to Ghana, or a dance tour to Europe, or a year of school to graduate! Ha. I LOVE IT! This last week was super hot and super humid, so that was nice! I really do like the heat! And now I have hilarious tan lines, yahoo!
ELLEEN AND FAM: So Elleen's brother is an area authority in Philippines. Cool, right? And when he came to visit a couple months ago they all came to church. A family in our ward reached out to them that Sunday and told us about them a couple weeks ago. So we contacted them and met with them this last week. They are Catholics and we prayed about their lesson and felt like we needed to talk about faith. So we did. And it went really well! We just started and asked a lot of questions. Like, "What does faith means to you? What do you have faith in? How have you increased your faith? How has having faith in Jesus Christ helped you?" And it was awesome because the kids and the parents were participating! Then we read some of Alma 32 and Elleen loved it! The spirit was there during the lesson and I can't wait to meet with them again!
UNCLE TOM: Wow, I'm so glad we're related to him. He's amazing! This past week I had two members tell me their experiences they've had with Elder Perry and it made me so happy! Brother Saunders is the amazing member I wrote about last week. When he was a recent convert he went to a stake conference where Elder Perry was present. Elder Perry came up and talked to him and saw him holding a brand new set of scriptures. He asked Brother Saunders if he had been using them. Brother Saunders said he was baptised recently but he plans to spend the rest of his life studying them. That conversation motivated Brother Saunders so much to study diligently for the rest of his life. He got emotional telling the story, it was so sweet!
Before President Miller was a mission president he was a stake president. And Elder Perry was the General Authority that set him apart. He was saying how funny and energetic Elder Perry was! He told us a funny story about Elder Perry with his blackberry but he was laughing so hard I couldn't really understand the story. Seeing President Miller laugh so hard made me laugh. Ha So I'm sure it was a funny story but I can't tell you what it was about.... I'm obsessed with the Millers! They always come teaching with us and they have us over for dinner and I just love them a lot!!
SMALL WORLD: I have made the strangest connections while I've been on my mission! Sister Morgan was telling me about the MTC the other day and way saying how much she loved her teachers. "And Brother Derenthal..." "Wait.... Does he look like Joseph Smith?" We both started laughing. I totally know him. Her MTC teacher was Christian Derenthal. He was in my singles ward and we were good friends. I'm a little embarrassed I know my last two companions MTC teachers... Missionaries are always like, "Sister Dayton, who do you not know." HA A LOT OF PEOPLE! But really small world, that's for sure.
GOOD MEMORIES: So the other day I was reading Alma 14 and while I was reading vs. 8-13 I remember Mom reading it many years ago, but crying so hard about the situation Alma and Amulek were in, so she asked me to read the rest of the verses. (probably because I for sure wouldn't start crying). I was young and didn't really understand the significance of these verses or the hardship that they were going through. But when I read them the other day I felt so sad for them! Man, people in the Book of Mormon are amazing and have such strong faith! And they are real people. And we can read their experiences! Wow - we are blessed! But it also made me so grateful for Mom and the strong testimony she has!!! You da best!!
Random things:
-S. Morgan dyed my hair. It's black :)
-I'm going to Niagara Falls next week :) I'm so excited, but my e-mail might be a little shorter. Sorry!
-Joan meets with us like twice a week and she knows the Book of Mormon is true!! We just need to get her to church!
-Hassan claims to be a Muslim but told us that he believes that Christ is the son of God!
-I haven't had Tim Bits in like 5 weeks and I miss them lots! Ha.
-Helena is having a baby this week!!
-Our investigator (bible bashing friend) David had us over for dinner!
-We walked 10K to an appointment the other day. And it was like 30 degrees Celsius. I got a little on the sweaty side.
Love you all! And hope you have a good week!
Sister Dayton
