April 20, 2015

PLAYAS! How are you all doing? This last week was a little slow because most YSA's were in finals but we still had some cool times! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for my birthday e-mails, cards, letters, drawings, gifts. YOU GUYS ARE LITERALLY THE GREATEST. My birthday was definitely different but it was good!

OUCH: When I say my night prayers I'm super tired and I fall asleep all the time. When I'm not asleep my mind totally wanders and I get distracted and forget what I'm praying for. Anyways, I wanted to fix it so I decided to say my night prayers out loud in another room. It's been awesome. I'm able to stay way more focused!! But last night I was praying and when I finished I started to walk towards the door in the dark and I totally ran into a standing lamp. HA Like I walked into it so hard!!! Hard enough that my lip started bleeding! And now I have a fat lip. HAHA people are going to ask, "Whoa, what happened to your lip???" "Oh, when I finished praying I was walking in the dark and walked into a lamp. NBD."

FREAKY: We were at the subway station and there was a guy that was sitting on the edge with his feet dangling into where the subway was about to come!!! OH MY GOSH I WAS IN SHOCK. There was a lady that started talking to him and was asking him to come back. After about 20 secs, right before the subway came) he got up and walked back. The lady was asking him if he was OK and was holding on his hood so he wouldn't jump... It was intense. I kept on thinking about it for the rest of the night. I'm glad the lady helped him out! She was so sweet!

AWKWARD: When we were saying bye to one of our investigators I went to shake his hand and for some reason Sister Herfort did it at the exact same time. So both of our hands were in his hand. It was super uncomfortable.

CREEPER OF THE WEEK: His name is Derick. I met him on a bus and talked to him for a while. He had a guitar with him so we first were talking about music. He told me he was on his way to his concert. Anyways, I asked him if he had ever met missionaries before and told him what our purpose was. He thought it was so interesting that I was giving up everything to be here. And I just told him it was because our message is that important. Anyways, I thought things were going well then randomly he was like, "What are you doing right now?" I told him I was headed home. And he was like, "Perfect. You don't have any commitments. You can come with me to my concert." HAHAHA I guess he wasn't really listening when I was telling him about my purpose.

BEN: Our investigator Ben (who is from China and has long hair) is one of my favorites. He is so insanely smart and his vocabulary is bigger and better than mine. And English is totally his second language. Not cool. Anyways, we haven't been able to see him for a long time because he's so focused in school. But finals ended and we were able to meet with him on Sunday. He had read a couple chapters in the Book of Mormon and had a list of questions for us. Ah, I was so scared when he pulled it out. I'm thinking, "he probably understands the Book of Mormon better than I do..." He had like 3 questions about Ishmael alone and they were super random and funny. But yeah, he understands it really well and he told us he got into it because the story was interesting. On Wednesday he's coming to sports and teaching a bunch of us self defense stuff. Can't wait.

KAREN: She came to church yesterday. Yahoo. Her boyfriends younger sister just got back from her mission so we think that will really help Karen commit to a date. She's been investigating for like 8 years but has only recently had the desire to get baptized! Hopefully it will happen on May 3rd

ANA: We had to push her date back again. She didn't come to church yesterday because she had a commitment. :( It will also happen on May 3rd. But we had a lesson with her on Friday and it went so well. We taught her word of wisdom and she said she will obey! YAHOO. She drank coffee a couple times a week but she has so much faith and really wants to get baptized.

HAMID: He's a new investigator and I'm so excited to keep teaching him. We taught him Restoration in the chapel and started the lesson with a prayer. After I finished he was like, "wow, that felt good." Ha it was so cute. We helped him know that it was the spirit. Throughout the lesson he was just nodding and smiling and saying, "yes, that's true." Cool. He has a baptismal date on May 10th. He wants to meet with us about two times a week. DONE. Anyways, I'm way excited to continue meeting with him.

SANJAY: So he was doing awesome!!!! And I'm not sure what happened this week but he didn't show up for his appointment and he hasn't replied to our texts or calls. It makes me so sad! I really hope he gets back to us ASAP.

RAYMOND: We saw him on the street a couple days ago. He had baggy pants and a cool limp. He looked like he wouldn't be interested but I started talking to him because the Gospel is for everyone, right? We totally taught him the Restoration on a bench by the bus stop! When we told the story of the first vision he was like. "So which church did God tell him to join???" YES!!
CN TOWER: So last Monday we went to the CN tower and it was like $36 to go up it... That's a lot of money, but I really wanted to go up! I convinced everyone else it was a good idea and we did it. IT WAS SO FUN!!!

On my birthday! Out to eat :)
