January 26, 2015

Hello, I hope everyone is loving their January! It wasn't too cold this week. It was about -10C each day which is way better than it has been! I feel like this week there were just a bunch of random things that happened soooo enjoy :)

WE WERE IN A MOVIE FOR A SEC:  So the other day we were just walking along Jane street by an intersection. This taxi came to a stop at the light and a man in the back seat was trying to open the door to get out. The driver was yelling at him, but the man in the back seat opened the door and started booking it. The taxi driver flipped a u-turn, parked his car and started chasing him. The man jumped into the back of the bus right before the doors close and the bus started going!! He was so smooth! I thought I was in a movie or something. But anyways, when the bus drove past I saw his face and it was a guy who we've talked to before! Ha the first time he asked me for money because he needed to get home to Brampton. The second time we talked to him he asked us if we were the people who believed that Jesus died on a pole. Uh, nope. Anyways, it was intense and I felt bad for the taxi driver. I'm guessing he didn't get any money from Mr. Smooth and Sneaky.

TEARS AT ESL: On Tuesday night we went to go teach ESL and I'm not sure why nobody showed up but we only had 1 student. The lesson was on Transportation but eventually he started talking about his life in the Philippines about two years earlier. One night his wife left him and her new baby at the house to run a couple errands. She got in a car accident and died!! He was telling us this and was crying so hard! Oh man, my eyes were burning. He got re-married about a year later and moved to Toronto. But his baby girl is living with his Mom back in the Philippines. He said that he doesn't Skype her because he knows he'll start crying so he just talks to her on the phone. Anyways it was nice because we taught him the Plan of Salvation instead of finishing our ESL lesson and the Spirit was there! It was great!!

THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE IN TORONTO: On Thursday we were headed to an appointment about 30 mins away so I sat down on the bus and started talking to an older lady. Wow, she was soooo nice! She was smiling at me and responding to my questions and I was super happy! But then she pulled out a chocolate and gave it to me! Yay! I love candy! She told me that she is on the bus for two hours every day and that every time someone is nice to her she gives them a chocolate! Cool, right? I want to be like her when I grow up. She just has a huge stash in her big, red purse. But it gets better! We were talking about God and she has a very strong belief in Him. She's something Orthodox. Anyways, she was telling me her sister believed that humans came from monkeys and she started crying. It was adorable. I guess I just make people cry left and rights... WOOPS. But We had a super nice chat. She wasn't interested at all in learning more about our religion but was so respectful. THEN she tried to give me $10. She was telling me that all 20 years old's are rude and evil but I was nice and I should take it to get coffee. We aren't allowed to take money and I denied it like four times but then she started getting loud and I didn't want to cause problems on the bus so I had to, right? SHE GETS BETTER! When she left she gave me a kiss on the check and said, "keep smiling and thanks for making my day!" WHAT? NO, SHE MADE MY DAY!!! So I got a chocolate, $10 and a kiss from Evita! She's my new favorite person in Weston!

ROSS: So when I'm friendly on the bus I pray that guys don't think that's I'm flirting with them. But not very many people are nice in Weston so people get the wrong idea all the time. We had a lesson with Ross and Denise on Friday and he was talking about the first time that we met on the bus. This is what he said, "She came up to me and started talking to me because I'm so good looking. And she was cute too so I talked to her for a while. Then when she asked for my number, I got so excited, even if it was about religion." OK keep in mind that Ross is living with Denise and he's telling this story to everyone! I was so embarrassed! I don't get red very often but I'm pretty sure I looked like a tomato. And the member we brought in the lesson thought it was the funniest thing. Throughout the lesson he would randomly start laughing out loud about it. Not OK.  Oh my, isn't that so awkward!!

DE PIEZA BARS: Last week I wrote about how Elder De Pieza had given us some bars three weeks in a row. Well I want to just update that. It's now four weeks in a row. No joke! But this time I have an awkward story with it. We were all at district meeting on Friday morning. The Spanish district, which Elder De Pieza is in, was downstairs and my district was upstairs. Before we left Elder De Pieza found us and brought us a container with some of his famous De Pieza bars. We started laughing and said thank you.

NO RELIGION ON THE BUS LADIES: That is what a bus driver said when we got on. It was the first time I've heard that and I didn't know if it was real. He was definitely not kidding but is he allowed to say that? He was a scary, old, grouchy man. But we just sat there looking super baffled. I'm glad we have only been on his bus once.

CAREN: In December Caren requested a missionary visit from Mormon.org. For some reason we never got her information! But last week we got a paper that had all of our online referrals on it. I noticed Caren's name and it did not look familiar. We gave her a call, set up an appointment and met with her a couple days later. During our appointment she told us that she was on the phone with her mom that other day telling her that she requested a Mormon missionary visit but they never contacted her so she just assumed that it wasn't meant to be. Right after she hung up her phone rang and it was us!! COOL, RIGHT?  When she was telling us that story I totally got chills and couldn't stop smiling. She's from Mexico, is about 25, married and is having her first baby this week! And we lover her a lot! Her best friend back home is a convert and sounds awesome. When Caren was sick her friend came over with her husband so he could give her a blessing. She always talks about her friend and how happy she and her husband are since they've been baptized. It's awesome, hopefully that will be her and her husband soon!

EXCUSES FOR MISSING CHURCH: We normally have about 8 people committed to come to church but last min we always have people give us an excuse for why they can't make it. Most of the time they are normal like "I don't feel very well." "I actually got called into work." "I'm meeting up with friends/family won't be able to make it." But this week we had some pretty interesting ones!
"I've just been shopping a lot and I'm super tired."
"I don't think I can make it because my feet are too swollen." OK that's actually legit but it was kind of a funny text. She's having her baby this week!!
One called us a couple hours before church started and said, "so last night I was at a wedding and had a couple drinks. I still smell like alcohol so I don't want to go to church." We told him people wouldn't judge him and we would still love to have him there but he didn't want to be in a church smelling like alcohol... Hopefully next week he won't have a friends wedding on Saturday night.

Anyways, I love you all and hope everything is going well!!
