JILL: Well thinking about this
last week honestly makes me want to cry. Jill has pushed back her date 3
times. We set if for November 15th a while ago and I knew it had to
happen then or it would just keep getting pushed back until it never
happened. On Tuesday we had planned to go over the baptismal interview
questions with her but when we got there she was a wreck!! She met with
her social worker who then wrote a letter to our Bishop about her phobia
of water. The letter talked about how we needed to be baptized her a
different way because she wasn't mentally able to go under water... Well
that's just not going to happen. Anyways to make it worse, she went to
her Doctors about her foot. She was supposed to get her boot off that
day but got the bad news that she needed to wear it for another two
months!! She was going crazy and telling us that she can't get baptized
for another two months. Well like I said I'm turning into my mom. I
TOTALLY STARTED CRYING. And not just a little bit. Like I couldn't
breath normally. We were sad because we knew it could work if she wanted
it badly enough. We read some scriptures about the blessings that come
from baptism but she was being negative and we were just getting grumpy.
Anyways it wasn't going well so Sister Crandall and I left. We called
our District and Zone leaders to let them know of the update. That night
our zone leaders sent out a text to all of the missionaries in the zone
asking to pray and fast for Jill the next day. So our whole zone prayed
and fasted for Jill. We also called some of the member in the ward to
tell them that it would be postponed and asked them to pray for Jill.
Elder Wirtama (my district leader) suggested that Jill should get a
priesthood blessing. So on Thursday night the Elders and Jack Jardien
(his wife just died) came over to Jill's with us and gave her a
blessing. Well after the blessing everything changed. After she said
amen she said, "I think I can get baptized this Saturday." Oh man, I
couldn't stop smiling. We talked about ways to make it easier for her.
She told us that she wanted to get baptized in a chair and just go
forward. We made some plans and went home. The next couple days we
planned for her baptismal service and on Saturday SHE GOT BAPTIZED!! The
power of prayer and fasting is real. It was so great to experience such
an amazing miracle.
I have a lot of other
stories to tell you but we need to go home so Sister Crandall can pack.
Hopefully my next e-mail will be a little bit longer.
Thanks for all being the best! And for praying for me and Jill :) your prayers were answered!
LOVE YOU!
Sister Dayton
Notice the chair in the water :) And how short she is! 4'10
My
camera is awful. But we gave Jill a journal so she could write down
feelings about her baptism and spiritual experiences that she has. And I
love her hat! BAHAHA
