October 27, 2014

Hello! Time is really flying. It's crazy. I've been in Toronto for about 10 weeks. This week was full of ups and downs, that's for sure.

FUNNY TEXTS:
1. On Wednesday we visited a recent convert who just had an eye surgery that didn't work!! He is getting the surgery again this week. Isn't that the worst? But that night we texted the Elders Quorum President just to let him know and he replied, "WHO CARES!!" Then he send a naughty text that I won't write haha but we were super confused. We looked at the number and noticed that the last two numbers were swapped.... So we texted some random person. Anyways for like 1 minute I was super baffled but then it ended up being funny.

2. We passed Jason off to the Elders because he was texting me like 17 times a day. But some of my favorites from this last week.
"Daytona I wondered if you wanted to come and visit me sometime. You don't have to bring your friend."
"Daytona, I think I want to join your church." That one was before the Elders taught him...
"Can I teach you a hand game Daytona?"

3. Elder Wiratma (my district leader from Indonesia) met with Jason and texted us after the lesson and said, "He had a cross on you. Haha." He's still learning English and thought crush was cross. BAHAHA!

CREEPER OF THE WEEK:
We had about 20 mins in between lessons and went to the closest restaurant for food. We were waiting for our hamburgers and a couple of super drunk guys from the bar came and started talking to us. First they were making fun of us and then they were telling us how awesome we were. It was confusing. But before they walked out one of them put his hand on my shoulder and said, "I'd give anything to do it all with you!" Oh my gosh, so gross! I'm really glad our hamburgers came out right after he said that so we left and didn't give them a card!

WHEN PEOPLE IGNORE ME:
So I think my biggest pet peeve is when people ignore me. This happens all the time!! When I first got here and people ignored my first question I would just stop but that's changed a little bit. I've found a good question that always gets people to talk back to me. If they ignore me when I ask how they are doing or something I'll ask, "Do you speak English?" I normally get a response to that. And it works out well because if they don't speak English I can give them an ESL card and tell them we teach for free and they can learn more. Some ladies got so bugged at me but that's what they get for ignoring me.

EMBARRASSING:
We were talking to a man on the street who said he spoke Spanish and sounded interested. We have a Spanish ward that meets in our building at 1:00 so I told him about it but accidentally said,
"We have a Mexican congregation that meets at 1:00." HAHAHA Woops!

JILL:
Satan is working so hard on Jill!!!! She hurt her foot and has a cast! The cast comes off on the 13th of November so we pushed back her date to the 15th. Her birthday is on the 15th and she's so excited to be baptized on that day! She comes to church every week and we visit with her about three times a week. When she reads the Book of Mormon she takes notes and writes down any question she has. So she is always so prepared for us to come over, it's so cute! We gave her a framed picture of Christ a while ago and every time we see her she says, "that is the best thing I've ever been given!"

ZONE:
Dang, our zone is killing it this transfer! Not going to lie, we were struggling last transfer but we got new zone leaders who have really motivated all of us to work harder and it's been great. Our first meeting the assistants were there and they challenged our zone (12 pairs of missionaries) to get 20 new baptismal dates in 3 days. We got it!! And got to throw pie at our assistants. That was nice. The next week our goal was to have 60 member present lessons, and we got 62!!! That's crazy. The ZL's are crazy and had like 17, so that helped a lot. The next week our goal was to find 60 new investigators. And we got 58, so missed it by a little. But my companion and I got 7 this last week, so that was awesome.

SPIRITUAL:
I read "Our Search for Happiness" this week by Elder Ballard. I LOVED IT! He shares so many cool experiences, some of which were from his time in Toronto as a mission President so that's cool. He also goes through all of the Articles of Faith and talks about their meaning. It was super helpful and I learned a lot! I also finished Genesis this week with the student manual which is the best. I read Genesis "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise hi heel." I was super baffled. Like what the heck does this mean! But then I read the manual... "The very act of Atonement will give Christ the power to overcome the power that Satan has over men and undo the effects of the Fall. Thus, the seed of the woman (Christ) shall crush the head of the serpent (Satan and his Kingdom) with the very heel that was bruised (the atoning sacrifice.)"  Cool right!?

OK, I should go but I hope you are all loving life wherever you are! Love you all like the twins love ice cream. LATA PLAYAS!!

Sister Dayton
Sidewalks just lead to these places. We cross one like everyday. Don't worry. I look both ways.
